Melissa Martinez, a Colombian-American soprano from Miami, is known for her lyrical and expressive vocal style, bringing warmth and dramatic intensity to her performances. In 2024, Melissa attended Jennifer Rowley’s Aria Boot Camp, a prestigious program where she refined her technique and expanded her repertoire with world-class teachers and coaches.
Melissa earned her Master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she performed scenes from Otello, Thaïs, and Le Nozze di Figaro. Her achievements were recognized with The CIM Max Bierman Prize in Voice. In 2022, she sang in The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus as a Shari Bierman Fellow. She also participated in the 2022 Cleveland Art Song Festival where she sang in masterclasses with Warren Jones, Tamara Wilson, Craig Terry, and David Portillo.
In 2019, she was honored as a winner of the Mirabell Competition while participating in the Patti and Allan Herbert Salzburg Program, providing her with invaluable international exposure. Additionally, she was awarded the National Society of Arts and Letters, Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship in Classical Voice, reflecting her exceptional talent and dedication.
Melissa began her operatic journey at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, earning her Bachelor’s degree. While there, she showcased her versatility by performing in the ensembles of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Stravinsky's The Rake’s Progress, and Massenet's Cendrillon. She also excelled in lead roles as Clara in Light in the Piazza, Le Princesse in L'enfant et les sortilèges, and Suzel in L’amico Fritz.
In addition to her performance career, Melissa teaches voice lessons in Miami at Sharp Minds Academy and Westminster Christian School to students of all skill levels and ages. Outside of music, she enjoys going on walks and treasures time spent with family and friends. As she continues to grow as an artist, Melissa remains passionate about exploring new roles and contributing to the rich tradition of classical music.
